Dimitris Varalis

Journalist, Mountain Guide

Dimitris was born in Volos. He is a mountain guide of the Hellenic Mountain Guides Association. He engages in studies for the development of mountainous areas, business administration and public relations. Moreover, he is a ski instructor, approved by the General Secretariat of Sports. He graduated from the Management and Economics School of the Technological Educational Institute of Larissa (Business Administration Department).

Since 1997, he has been a mountain guides instructor within the framework of seminars organized by various bodies (PASEGES, YOUTHSTAR etc.), as well as a rapporteur at various programs. From 1988 to this day, he has been collaborating with the company Douzenis  Κ. Ε. Mpastis E.P.E.-Electromechanical installations.

In 1995, he took part in a study for the capturing of central Pelion’s trails. Between 1995 and 1996, he was a collaborator for the special forms of tourism within the framework of the ΡΑCTE program. Later on, he engaged in the capturing of Andros’ trails and worked as a specialist consultant at Anaptyxiaki Androu (Andros Development Company) for the implementation of the aforementioned study and the signaling of the island’s trails.

From 2001 to 2002, he was in charge of the implementation of hiking programs on behalf of the German travel agency S.K.R in Pelion. From 1994 to the present day, he has been an instructor and the Manager of Pelion Ski School.

As far as his journalistic activities are concerned, from 2001 to 2010, he collaborated with Lambrakis Press S.A. for the periodicals ΝGT, TA NEA, Diakopes and Taxydromos, as well as with Pegasus Publishing S.A. for periodicals of the newspaper “Ethnos tis Kyriakis”, the special publications “Exerevniste tin Ellada” (Explore Greece) etc.

From 2004 to 2005, he was in charge of the implementation of hiking programs on behalf of the Dutch agency ROS HOLIDAYS. From 2004 to this day, he is in charge of the implementation of hiking programs on behalf of the German agency ATTIKA REISEN (www.attika.de) and, from 2004 to this day as well, he has been collaborating with Hellenic Adventures, Inc.
